HUMA Specialty Coffee Lab was recognized with an Honorable Mention at the Global Coffee Awards 2025. This achievement places us among the best exponents of alternative milk beverages worldwide and motivates us to continue exploring cups that highlight the best of Ecuadorian coffee.
The Global Coffee Awards is an international program featuring blind tastings and a single winner per subcategory and category. It offers visibility on platforms such as Perfect Daily Grind and the Producer & Roaster Forum, and brings together roasters and producers from diverse regions. HUMA achieved Honorable Mention among more than ten participating countries, a result that celebrates the clarity of purpose behind every cup of coffee.

The farm behind the cup
We competed against a coffee from Finca Lugmapata, located in Chimborazo, Ecuador, with 88 SCA points. It's a family project led by the Merino brothers, focused on varietal selection and knowledge transfer to the community. We chose this lot for its delicate and enveloping profile with notes of caramel raspberry, cherry, and white flowers, with a juicy body and a honeyed aftertaste. Its transparent and sweet character integrated naturally with the texture of the plant-based milk, allowing us to create a clean and silky cup.
The creative inspiration came from harmonizing the natural red fruit notes of coffee with an almond-like sweetness in plant-based milk. In the lab, we conducted sensory tests and adjusted the roasting process specifically for milk to enhance sugar solubility and sweetness persistence in the cup. The result was a creamy, balanced, and vibrant beverage.
We will continue perfecting recipes that highlight the character of Ecuadorian coffee and sharing our knowledge with the community. Thank you for being part of this journey. Every cup inspires us to create and promote Ecuadorian specialty coffee to the world.
